Robotic prostate surgery may mean trade-off
CHICAGO (AP) — A new study suggests less-invasive keyhole surgery for prostate cancer may mean a higher risk for lasting incontinence and impotence when compared with traditional surgery.
The results add to confusion around prostate cancer treatments, which sometimes lead to urinary and sexual problems. It’s not clear that either kind of surgery is superior to radiation alone or watchful waiting, which means simply monitoring the prostate for changes.
Laparoscopic, or keyhole, surgery is increasingly chosen by men having a cancerous prostate removed. And often it involves the highly marketed da Vinci robotics system. Da Vinci’s popularity has been rising even though there’s never been a rigorous head-to-head comparison between it and standard surgery.
The patients who had keyhole surgery left the hospital in two days, rather than three, on average. They also had lower rates of blood transfusions, breathing problems and internal scarring.
There was no difference in the rate of additional cancer therapy down the road, suggesting the two techniques were about the same for cancer control.
But the men who had keyhole surgery were more likely to report complications in the first 30 days after surgery involving genital and urinary function. About 5 percent of the minimally invasive surgery patients vs. about 2 percent of the standard surgery patients had these complications. And after 18 months, they had more incontinence and erectile dysfunction.
In laparoscopic surgery, small incisions are made and the doctor uses a tiny camera and instruments for the operation. When robotics is used for this, the doctor sits at a console and manipulates similar instruments attached to robotic arms that work on the patient.
First lady stresses small steps to improve health
WASHINGTON (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama says small changes in diet and exercise habits can improve health and fitness.
In other words, don’t try to change everything at once.
Choose walking over driving. Add a vegetable or fruit to meals. Switch from sugary soda to water.
Mrs. Obama said that lifestyle changes are needed because nearly one-third of U.S. children are either overweight or obese — a major public health threat, as she described it, that doesn’t bode well for their future.
“Imagine what we’re going to be facing in 20 or 30 years if we don’t get on this issue,” she said while visiting the Health and Human Services Department, her 11th stop at a Cabinet department or federal agency. “None of us wants a future like that for our children.”
Mrs. Obama said she knows firsthand that change is hard. She recalled her not too distant days as a busy, working mother rushing home after work only to find an empty refrigerator and two hungry, complaining kids. It was easy to order pizza or other takeout food, she said.
Then the family pediatrician sounded an alarm, the first lady said, adding that it prompted her to start making some of the changes she talked about: adding more fruits and vegetables to meals, cutting back on sugary drinks and processed foods, reading food labels.
The Health and Human Services Department recently announced that states, communities, U.S. territories and tribes may apply for a share of $493 million in economic stimulus funds to pay for prevention and wellness programs.
It costs about $1,000
Sat ,31/07/2010It costs about $1,000 for removal of facial hair, and anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000 for removal of hair from the legs and pubic area. Laser hair removal is an FDA-approved process, to be performed only by a licensed and trained professional.
Photo Epilation/Pulsed Laser
This FDA-approved procedure uses a pulsed light beam to destroy the hair follicles. Photo Epilation/Pulsed Laser is especially effective for removing hair from sensitive areas, such as the underarms and the bikini area. Unlike laser hair removal, this method has no restrictions regarding hair color, skin color, or tanning. Depending on the area of the body to be treated, costs can run from $500 to $2,000 and up.
Removal of unwanted hair, for any reason whatsoever, is easier and more available today than ever before.

If they respond by saying
Sat ,31/07/2010If they respond by saying “we have coffee already roasted” then you may want to try somewhere else. The roaster that tells you that they roast it just prior to shipping is selling you very fresh coffee.
You may ask, what is the cost difference between supermarket coffee and a roastery? Cost always vary, but if you think that $8.95 a lbs to $35.95 a lbs is to much then you probably will never have a great cup of coffee that leaves your palate screaming for more. I personally can’t stand the taste of stale coffee. I only drink the good stuff.

Train steams to rescue of injured cyclist
Sat ,31/07/20100 Comments | Bath Chronicle, The, Jul 29, 2010
An injured cyclist was transported to safety – by a 1950s steam train.
Paramedics were called to the Bristol and Bath Cycle Path, which runs alongside the Avon Valley Railway between Bitton and Wick, at 5pm on Tuesday.
The cyclist, a man in his 40s, had collided with another rider and suffered a suspected back injury.
It was too difficult for an ambulance to reach the patient and there was nowhere for the air ambulance to land. Staff from the steam railway attraction then offered one of their trains to take the cyclist to Bitton station.
GWAS paramedic Andy Osmond said: “The rider had gone over his handlebars and was complaining of spinal pain. We immobilised him on a stretcher but could not get our ambulance to him.
“We thought about requesting the air ambulance but there was nowhere for it to land.
“However, there were two members of the Avon Valley Railway on scene and they called the engine driver to back up the steam train from Bitton so we could put the patient on board and take him to the ambulance.
“We would like to thank the Avon Valley Railway staff for their assistance.
Their help meant the patient could be transferred safely from a difficult location.”
The cyclist, who was conscious throughout, was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath for X-rays, but his condition was not thought to be serious.
Growing interest in WA pastoral belt as stations go on sale.
Sat ,31/07/2010Australasian Business Intelligence, June, 2005
Jun 28, 2005 (The West Australian – ABIX via COMTEX)
Elders is preparing to auction six Western Australian (WA) pastoral stations totalling 1.6 million hectares in mid-August 2005. Elders rural sales manager, Malcolm French, said conducting the auctions around the same time is a marketing technique to maximise interest in the properties. Property analysts expect there will be increasing interest in WA’s pastoral belt from interstate because pastoral land in WA is still significantly cheaper than similar land in eastern Australia. The pastoral stations to be auctioned by Elders include WMC Resources’ The Pinnacles and Dandaraga in the northern Goldfields

CEIS – Australia urged to catch killer of Indian student

Australia urged to catch killer of Indian student
CANBERRA, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) — Australia has been urged to fast- track the killer of an Indian student in Melbourne as ties between the two countries continue to be strained.
Last Saturday’s stabbing murder of Nitin Garg, 21, killed on his way to work at a Hungry Jack’s fast food restaurant, has sparked renewed debate about the safety of Indians in Australia.
Garg’s uncle, Raj Kumar, said the Australian government had failed to safeguard his nephew, and urged further action to prevent future attacks, Australian Associated Press reports.
“Every time we were assured by your ministry, Australian, they were protecting Indians, but they have failed in protecting Indians,” Kumar said.
The Indian government has predicted the attack will impact on relations between the two countries, and while it has ruled out sanctions, it has once again pressed Australia to ensure the safety of its citizens

Fitch Affirms & Withdraws FUCAC's (Uruguay) 'B' IDRs; Outlook Stable
Thu ,29/07/2010Business Wire, May 13, 2010
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Fitch Ratings has affirmed and withdrawn Federacion Uruguaya de
Cooperativas de Ahorro y Credito’s (FUCAC) Issuer Default Ratings (IDRs)
and outstanding credit ratings as follows:
–Foreign currency IDR at ‘B’;
–Local currency IDR at ‘B’;
–Support at ’5′;
–Support rating floor ‘NF’.
Fitch also affirms FUCAC’s national long-term rating at ‘BBB-(uy)’.
The Rating Outlook is Stable.
FUCAC’s ratings are based on its improved performance over the past few
years, as well as its good capitalization and its adequate liquidity
position. The ratings also take into account its niche franchise and
FUCAC’s decision to abandon its regulatory status as a Financial
Intermediary and operate as a ‘Credit Manager Company’.
FUCAC’s performance was good in 2009, in spite of being lower than a
year before because of inflation adjustment and an extraordinary loss.
Otherwise, its profitability outperformed that of the Uruguayan banking
system.
Credit risk is the mayor risk of the company. Asset quality has
historically been somewhat weak due to FUCAC’s focus on the low-income
segment of the population. However, the loan loss reserve coverage was
so far bigger than past due loans (loans 60 days or more overdue) and
more than 100% of non-performing loans.
During 2007, FUCAC decided to abandon its regulatory status as a
Financial Intermediary due to its heavy regulatory requirements and
operate as a ‘Credit Manager Company’. As a result, it had to pay back
its deposits. New funding is based financial instruments, capital and
bank loans.
FUCAC’s balance sheet is well-matched in terms of currency and tenors
and FUCAC has maintained adequate levels of liquidity. Because of the
new funding structure the cooperative could operate with lower levels of
liquidity than the Uruguayan banking system.
According to its new regulatory status, Fucac has a lower capital
requirement, however its capitalization is solid, with an equity/assets
ratio of 52.4% at end-September 2009, higher than the banking system
(12,8%).
Credit research on FUCAC is available on the Fitch Ratings web site at www.fitchratings.com.
The main methodologies used for these rating actions are outlined in the
following criteria reports which are available at www.fitchratings.com:
